Immunization and Wellness
Care
We offer
comprehensive immunization and wellness care.
Vaccinating your pet against contagious diseases and viruses is a
significant commitment to your pet’s well being and quality of life.
Preventative care is the best kind of care. We develop an individual
program for your pet at your first visit with us and we fully explain the
vaccinations needed and why. As with humans, vaccinations are developed for some
of the worst diseases affecting our pets. Many of the vaccinations are
given in a series to help build up the appropriate immunity for your pet.
Your pet will not be immune from the disease or virus until the whole series of
vaccinations is complete. Yearly Heartworm test and parasite screens are
also part of your pets yearly wellness care.
Geriatric Care
When your pet reaches an approximate age of 5-7 years, we believe
it is time to pay closer attention to changes that may occur in behavior,
physical ability and overall well-being. Many changes are gradual and
difficult to detect by observation. We are committed to providing you with
the information that will help maintain or improve the quality of life of your
pet as they age. We ensure that the responsibility for detecting what is
going on with your pet is not placed entirely on the owner’s observations but
on standard diagnostic tools that can be used to detect disease in the early
stages.
There are four basic wellness assessments we believe that are crucial to your older pet’s longevity, quality of life and comfort.
1.
Six month physical exam
2.
Yearly blood Panel, urinalysis and radiographs
3.
Dental check
4.
Feeding assessment and recommendations
Drop Off Service
For the convenience of our
clients with busy schedules we also offer a drop off
service where a pet can be dropped off between 7am - 8am for needed care.
The veterinarian will examine your pet and then call to go over any
question or concerns you may have. Then,
the pet can be picked up at the end of the client’s workday, before 5pm.
Surgery
At Knightsville Veterinary Clinic, we offer routine surgeries
including spays, neuters, declaws and lump removals. We also offer
non-elective surgery including abdominal and thoracic surgery as well as some
orthopedic procedures.
With the developments in anesthesia and
anesthetic monitors as well as preoperative blood screens, anesthesia is safer
than it used to be. We, as a team, are committed to great care for your
pet during surgery and we do recommend pre-operative blood screens on all of our
patients prior to surgery. We monitor your pet closely checking blood oxygen
levels, ECG, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate throughout surgery.
Radiology
Radiographs are helpful for
evaluating a variety of medical conditions; but are absolutely vital in
evaluating bone and joint problems. Radiographs are also useful for evaluating
those pets that are lethargic, vomiting, or coughing. The radiograph picture can
be taken, processed on film by our technician staff, and be ready for evaluation
in a matter of minutes. Having an on-site radiology unit and film processor
allows our doctor staff to reach diagnoses quickly and begin treatment promptly.
Dental Care
Pets need dental care too. We
recommend daily dental care and professional teeth cleaning for dogs and cars. We
offer a full line of dental care services including cleaning and polishing and
extractions. Routine preventative
dental care and cleaning will not only help keep your pet healthy, it will also
help keep their breath fresh. Routine and consistent oral healthcare
significantly reduces the risk of oral infections that are linked to heart,
kidney and liver problems.
In house Laboratory
Getting laboratory test
results quickly means our doctors can begin the treatment plan for your pet. Our
facility is equipped with hematology and chemistry machines to allow us to get
quick and accurate results on many routine blood tests within minutes. The
results of most other common tests including heartworm tests, fecal analysis,
and feline leukemia tests are also available while you wait.
Pharmacy
Our on-site pharmacy not only stocks the drugs and medications required to treat
your pet for illness, but also has a full range of flea, tick and heartworm
prevention products as well as vitamins, nutritional supplements and grooming
products.
Pocket Pets
In addition to dogs and
cats, we have special interest in smaller animals that we affectionately call
pocket pets. These animals include;
ferrets, rats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, and more.
We offer not only diagnostic and routine medical care for these animals,
but also surgical care.
Small Ruminants
Goats and sheep are welcome
at our hospital too. We offer
services for these ruminants such as neutering, dehorning, routine medical care
and nutritional information.
Prescription Diets
We carry several lines of
prescription diets to suit your pet’s needs. These special diets are available
for animals dealing with allergies, brain diseases, endocrine diseases
(diabetes), gastrointestinal disease, heart disease, joint disease, kidney
disease, liver disease, obesity, and urinary conditions. Please ask us about
which diet is right for your pet.
Microchips
Have you considered micro-chipping
your pet? A microchip is a tiny
electronic device, about the size of a grain of rice that is implanted beneath a
pet’s skin between the shoulder blades, and stays there for the pet’s entire
life. This procedure is as easy and
as painless as a vaccination. Each
microchip has a unique number. This
number, along with information about the owner and pet, are added to a national
pet registry. Most veterinarians
and animal shelters have electronic scanners for detecting and reading these
implanted microchips. If a lost pet
is found, and the microchip is scanned, the registry is called and the owner
contacted.
Pet Insurance
Do you have insurance for
your pet? Don’t let unforeseen
financial situations decide the outcome for your pet in critical situations.
Pet insurance can help to cover routine vaccinations as well emergency
situations. Ask us about pet insurance on your next visit.
